Signature in Art 18th and 19th century

Why have the increasing number of 19th centuries paintings signature? Maybe, because the signature was documenting function once, and it became a sign slowly

Is there a possibility the Industrial Revolution affected the idea of the painting? Or the change in the bourgeois’ propensity to consume in the 19th century. or both.
